COME ON GEORGE: HAVE YOU JOINED THE KKK aka TEA PARTY?
(An open letter to George Will)
Dear George;
Over the past two decades or so I have read your commentary and taken another swig of Pep to Bismol. However, your recent installment of conservative Hog Wash was so distorted and incorrect that I just had to put my thoughts in writing and forward to you. In your commentary “Tea Party Change Fundamental”, from the Washington Post and reprinted in the Jackson “Clarion-Ledger, Sunday, July 24, 2011, p. 4C.” Either you have lost your mind, or, you believe that everybody else have lost their minds.
You state, “The tea party, the most welcome political development since the Goldwater insurgency in 1964, lacks only the patience necessary when America lacks the consensus required to propel fundamental change through our constitutional system of checks and balances.” It would be unbearable if the “Tea Party” had seized control of both houses of Congress and the White House was occupies by, let’s say, George W. Bush or the immortal Ronald Reagan. By this time the entire country would be in social and political ruin, which is the case in Florida, Wisconsin, Ohio, and the entire Dixiecrat-Republican South.
Next, you advise the “Tea Party” to be patient with this: “The Goldwater impulse took 16 years to reach fruition in the election of Ronald Reagan. The tea party can succeed in 16 months by helping elect a president who will not veto necessary reforms.” Where were you, George, when George W. and his Republican Controlled Congress took less than a year to turn a budget surplus into a deficit through tax cuts and restricting social programs. What the Administration of Ronald Reagan should have taught the American voter is that “Supply-Side” does not work for a majority of the working class in American. It is designed to upset the government by reducing the amount of revenue it can collect. Two quick history notes George, the Income tax was designed to force the wealthy to pay into the government, not the under-employed and the middle class. Secondly, this philosophy persisted in the 1920s and the end result was “The Great Depression” Finally, it leads to two “Recessions” during the great years of Ronald Reagan and both Bush Administrations. Come-On George.
George, you know as well as any rational thinking person, is the fuel of the “Tea Party” is to defeat the Nation’s first elected African-American President. Review the History of the tea party. I ask you to review the current Republican leadership in Congress. They were all in office during the spend, no tax, years of “W”. Where was this outrage? Where was your outrage, George? You people have been trying to bind President Obama to the Bush mess since he was elected. This group has played political games with this president.
George, any freshmen college student understands that the effect of Recessions can surface many years after its inception. The Bush Administration did not admit that the country was in recession for ten (10) months. Why George, because it was an election year. It was Bush who offered the first stimulus to save his rich buddies long before President was elected. And we all know that the banks that could help, or the corporations, who could invest in jobs will attempt to hold out until the next election. You, George and the Dixiecrat-Republican-Tea Party supporter will not support the use of government to create jobs.
Finally, your support of a smaller federal government and your support of “States Rights” are as old as The United States itself. Go back, George, and study the history of United States Government. Review the reasons your “Founding Fathers” saw the need for a new Constitution, and a need to fight the Civil War. Maybe you will be able to see what has happened to your Republican Party since Goldwater’s “Southern Strategy” high-jacked the Party and is today pressing the national debate. History shows us, George, there is not a section of this nation that has more experience in oppressing the majority of its citizens, that the “New South.” The Tea Party is just the latest installment.

THE REV. DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR:
· BORN, IN ATLANTA, GA, ON THIS DAY IN 1929
· RECEIVED A BA DEGREE IN SOCIOLOGY, AT AGE 19, FROM MOREHOUSE COLLEGE, IN 1948. (THE GREAT YEAR THAT I WAS BORN)
· RECEIVED A DEGREE IN DEVINITY FROM CROZER THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY (CHESTER, PA) IN 1951
· AND, A PH.D IN SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY FROM BOSTON UNIVERSITY IN 1955.
FROM A HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE, CONSIDERING THE TIME FRAME, 1929-1955, THE PLACE WHERE HE WAS BORN, ATLANTA, GEORGIA, AND WHAT HE WAS ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH IN JUST TWENTY-SIX YEARS OF LIFE, WOULD HAVE TO BE CHARACTERIZE AS REMARKABLE.
HOWEVER, THOSE TWENTY-SIX YEARS PROVED TO BE MARTIN’S FORMATIVE YEARS, HIS YEARS IN THE WILDERNESS. I BELIEVE THAT THESE WERE YEARS IN WHICH DR. KING BEGAN TO FORMALATE HIS “DREAM” , NO!, HIS MISSION, AND HIS PLACE WITHIN THAT “DREAM-MISSION”.
1955 BECAME THE POINT OF DEPARTURE ON THAT MISSION WHEN HE LED THE MONTGOMERY BUS BOYCOTT AGAINST SEGREGATED BUSSES.
YET, IT WAS ONLY THE BEGINNING. IN THE NEXT THIRTEEN SHORT YEARS, DR. KING JOURNEYED THROUGH THE CONSCIENCE OF THE AMERICAN MIND, FORCED THE NATION TO LOOK AT WHAT IT HAD BECOME, AND SHOWED A PEOPLE, BLACK PEOPLE, MYSELF INCLUDED, TO DEMAND THEIR RIGHTFUL PLACE IN AMERICAN SOCIETY.
I NEVER MET DR. KING, BUT I SAW HIM AS HE PASSED OUR HOUSE ON RIDGELAND AVENUE AND HIGHWAY 51 ON HIS MARCH FROM MEMPHIS TO JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI IN THE SUMMER OF 1966. IF HE WAS IN THE NEWSPAPER OR ON RADIO OR TELEVISION, I WAS THERE. AND EACH TIME I FELT THAT, IN A SENSE, HE WAS TALKING TO ME AND DEEPLY CONCERNED ABOUT THE WORLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO FACE.
NEVERTHELESS, THAT IS NOT WHY WE ARE HERE TODAY. WE ARE HERE TODAY:
· TO HONOR MARTIN LUTHER KING JR’S VISION OF EQUALITY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL.
· TO CONTINUE HIS MISSION THAT AMERICANS, BLACK, WHITE, RED, OR YELLOW, MUST BE AFFORDED THE OPPROTUNITY TO HAVE A QUALITY WAY OF LIFE, AN EQUAL EDUCATION, AND THE PERSUIT OF HAPPINESS.
· TO REMEMBER THAT THROUGHOUT HIS TRIAL AND TRIBULATIONS, DR. KING NEVER LOST HIS FAITH IN GOD AND GOD’S PROMISE TO US.
· TO NOT ALLOW HIS MEMORY TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH THE LIKES OF GEN. ROBERT E. LEE AND STONEWALL JACKSON WHO CONTINUE TO FIGHT CIVIL RIGHTS FROM THE GRAVE. WHERE THE CONFEDERATE FLAG WILL CEASE TO BE A REMINDER OF RACISM AND SEGREGATION TO OUR CHILDREN AS THEY ENTER SCHOOL HOUSES AND GOVERNMENT BUILDINGS THROUGH THE SOUTH. WHERE OUR CHILDREN WILL HAVE A REAL OPPORTUNITY TO BE ALL THAT THEY CAN BE.
WE ARE HERE TO REMEMBER THESE WORDS SPOKEN BY DR. KING ON THE DAY BEFORE HE DIED ON APRIL 4, 1968:
“I JUST WANT TO DO GOD’S WILL”, HE SAID, “ AND HE’S ALLOWED ME TO GO TO THE MOUNTIAN TOP. AND I’VE SEEN THE PROMISE LAND! I MAY NOT GET THERE WITH YOU, BUT I WANT YOU TO KNOW TONIGHT THAT WE AS A PEOPLE WILL GET TO THE PRIMISE LAND.”
IT IS UP US, ALL OF US, TO CONTINUE THE “DREAM-MISSION” OF DR. KING. CELEBRATE THIS DAY AS A DAY TO REMEMBER WHERE WE, AS A PEOPLE, HAVE COME. AND WHERE WE, AS A PEOPLE, MUST GO. THE FUTURE REST WITH US ALL TO CELEBRATE THIS DAY, JANUARY 15TH FOR OURSELVES, OUR CHILDREN, AND OUR CHILDREN’S CHILDREN.

RE: LETTER TO THE EDITOR
I hope that every African American, who resides in Madison County, has been following your reporting of the trial that the Madison County School District finds itself. There is an attempt to restore legally, the "separate but un-equal" school system in Madison County. Personally, I had a guarded respect for Superintendent Mike Kent until he began to pursue this course of action.
I write to you as a resident born in Madison County prior to the Civil Rights movement, witnessed and participated in that Movement, and was part of a group of students who faced the raft of Madison County Segregationalists, attempting to integrate Madison Central High School's predessor, Madison-Ridgeland High School in 1966. It is a subtle attempt to return Madison County to unrestricted control of what type of education African Americans receive by legally, and controlling their financial support, and who instructs them.
During the debate over whether to build Ridgeland High School these same issues were raised and when questioned about the lack of African American teachers at Madison Central High, Mr. Kent stated that the District had trouble finding enough qualified African American teachers. The District was allowed to build. Ten Months before Ridgeland High School opened; I applied for a teaching position through the Madison County School District. Mind you, I with a Ph. D. in Social Studies, a Double "A" Certification in Computer Application, and over Twenty (20) years of teaching experience. I never received a call from the Madison County School District. I submit to you that, if investigated, you would find similar applications, from African Americans that were dealt with in a similar manner.
Finally, I find it very difficult to believe Mr. Kent's argument about the distance students travel. It is my understanding that African American students who live in the East Flora Area begin their daily bus trip to Madison Central before 6 AM, and travel much longer than forty-five minutes that Mr. Kent alluded to for White Students would have to travel to Velma Jackson High School. I would also like to remind Mr. Kent, that White teacher, who holds the majority of the teaching positions at Velma Jackson, travel longer than forty-five minutes to teach those African American students. I must remind Mr. Kent that one cannot place the title "MAGNET SCHOOL", strip it of its share of educational resources and not actively promote its success. THAT SCHOOL IS DOOMED TO FAIL!!!!
We, African Americans, must take heed and never forget the history and traditions of Madison County and take heed of what is happening with the Dixiecrat-Republican majority government officials who run this County. Remember them on ELECTION DAY". If not, we will soon realize that this "Consent Decree" case is just the tip of the iceberg.

INCIDENT:
APPROXIAMATELY 4 AM, WHILE DELIVERING PAPERS, I NOTICED A LARGE DARK TRUCK PARKED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, THINKING THAT IT WAS A HUNTER, I CONTINUED TO 230 ANCIENT OAKS AND THREW THE PAPER. THIS WAS IN FULL VIEW OF WHOEVER WAS IN THE TRUCK. I THEN BACKED OUT AS ALWAYS, GOING BACK TO LAKE CAVALIER ROAD.
THE TRUCK THEN TURNED ON ITS BRIGHT LIGHTS AND BEGAN TO FOLLOW ME AT TIMES ON MY BUMPER. AS I CAME TO THE INTERSECTION OF ANCIENT OAKS AND LAKE CAVALIER I TOOK OUT MY CELL PHONE AND TRIED TO CALL HOME. I TURNED LEFT ON LAKE CAVALIER AND THE TRUCK TURNED LEFT. AS I PRECEEDED DOWN LAKE CAVILIER, THE TRUCK TURNED INTO A CHURCH PARKING LOT.
THINKING IT WAS NOTHING, I CONTINUED ON, BEFORE I COULD GET TO MY NEXT THROW, I NOTICED THAT THE TRUCK WAS STILL FOLLOWING ME. BY THE TIME I GOT TO LAKE CAVALIER AND COKER ROAD, THE TRUCK WAS ON MY BUMPER AGAIN. I TURNED LEFT ON COKER ROAD, THE TRUCK TURNED AGAIN. I CALLED MY WIFE AND HAD HER TO CALL THE MADISON COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE AND STAYED ON THE PHONE WITH HER. AT THE SAME TIME I WAS LOOKING FOR A LIGHTED HOUSE IN ORDER TO SEEK HELP. I TURNED INTO 3730 COKER ROAD AND BEGAN TO BLOW MY HORN, BECAUSE THE TRUCK TURNED IN BEHIND, BLOCKING ME IN. (A DISTENCE OF 2.4 MILES AT 4 A.M.)
AS I CONTINUED TO BLOW THE HORN THE TRUCK BACKED UP AND LEFT. AS MY WIFE TALKED TO THE SHERIFFS OFFICE, I WAS TOLD THAT THIS MAN WAS ALSO TALKING TO THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE. THE MAN CLAIMED THAT HE WAS FOLLOWING ME BECAUSE HE HAD NEVER SEEN MY VEHICLE IN THE AREA.
WHEN I FIRST APPROACH THE VEHICLE ON ANCIENT OAKS, MY INSIDE LIGHTS WERE ON AND HE COULD CLEARLY SEE ME AND COLOR OF MY SKIN. HE ALSO SAW OR SHOULD HAVE SEEN ME THROW THE PAPER AT 230 ANCIENT OAKS.
LATER I DECIDED TO HAVE A SHERIFF'S DEPUTY MEET ME AND TAKE A COMPLAINT, BECAUSE THEY HAD TO KNOW THE MAN'S NAME. THE OFFICER MET ME AT COKER ROAD AND SHADY LANE. HE GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND DIDN'T HAVE ANYTHING IN HIS HAND TO TAKE MY COMPLAINT. I TOLD THE OFFICER I WANT TO FILE A COMPLAINT, THE OFFICER TOLD ME THAT THE TRUCK DRIVER HAD DONE NOTHING WRONG. I SAID:
"WHAT ABOUT HARRASSMENT? INTERFERING WITH MY ABILITY TO MAKE A LIVING? THE OFFICER SAID THAT NONE OF THOSE APPLIED AND THAT JUST AS I HAD A RIGHT TO MAKE A LIVING, THE TRUCK DRIVER HAD A RIGHT TO PROTECT HIS NEIGHBORHOOD. I SAID "HE SURELY SAW ME THROW THE PAPER"; THE OFFICER SAID,"HE COULD HAVE BEEN REACHING DOWN FOR HIS CELL PHONE AT THE EXACT SAME TIME THAT I THREW THE PAPER. "WHY WOULD HE BE ON MY BUMPER WITH HIS BRIGHT LIGHTS GLARING"? I SAID. THE OFFICER SAID "HE WAS TRYING TO GET YOUR LINCENCE #, HE CALLED IT IN, YOU KNOW. I ASKED THE OFFICER WHY WOULD HE CONTINUE TO FOLLOW ALMOST A MILE DOWN COKER ROAD, IF HE WAS TALKING TO THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE? THE OFFICER SAID HE WAS ON "NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH". THE OFFICER TOLD ME ONCE AGAIN THAT THE DRIVER OF THE TRUCK HAD DONE NOTHING WRONG, HOWEVER HE COULD SEE BOTH SIDES OF THE STORY.
POSSIBLE VIOLATIONS OF LAW AND/OR CIVIL RIGHTS:
ASSUALT
1.AND UNLAWFUL THREAT OR ATTEMPT TO DO BODILY INJURY TO ANOTHER, OR2.THE ACT OR INSTANCE OF UNLAWFULLY THREATENING OR ATTEMPTING TO INJURE ANOTHER.
CLEARLY, THE PERSON DRIVING THE PLACED MY LIFE IN JEOPARDY BY HIS ACTIONS. BECAUSE I COULD HAVE LOST CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE WHILE TRYING TO WATCH HIM AND GET HELP IN THIS REMOTE AREA.
RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT:
"CONDUCT THAT CREATES A SUBSTANTIAL RISK OF SERIOUS PHYSICAL INJURY OR DEATH TO ANOTHER PERSON" (SEE ABOVE COMMENT)
THERE ARE OTHERS: HARRASSMENT, RESTRAINT OF TRADE (INTERFERING WITH MY ABILITY TO CONDUCT LAWFUL BUSINESS), AND ACCORDING TO THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE, "FAILURE TO DIM LIGHTS WHILD TAILGATING". THIS WAS THE ONLY LEGAL OPTION THEY COULD GIVE ME. THIS SUGGESTION IS TOO LUDICROUS TO COMMENT UPON. I TOLD THE OFFICER THAT HAD I NOT HAD A CELL PHONE TO CONTACT HELP THEY MIGHT HAVE FOUND ME SWINGING FROM A TREE AND THAT WAS MY CONCERN. SEEING THAT I WASN'T GOING ANYWHERE WITH THIS OFFICER, WHO COULD CLARLY SEE HOW SHAKEN I WAS, I THANKED HIM AND WENT ON MY WAY.
WHY WAS THIS MAN OUT AT 4 AM ON A DARK GRAVEL ROAD? WHEN DID HE PHONE THE SHIRIFF'S OFFICE? DID HE DO IT TO COVER HIS TRUE INTENTION AND SUSPECTED THAT I WAS CALLING THE SHIRIFF?
IF HE WAS ON NEIGHBORHOOD PATROL DOES IT EXTEND OVER A MILE FROM WHERE HE FIRST SAW ME THROW THE PAPER. IF HIS INTENTION WAS TO SHAKE A BLACK PERSON UP, HE SURE DID THAT.
ARE PEOPLE ALLOWED TO TAKE SUCH MEANS BECAUSE "THEY DIDN'T RECOGNIZE A CAR IT IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD? MY JOB IS TO DELIVER PAPERS BEFORE THE CUSTOMERS GO TO WORK. THERE IS NOT ONE NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH SIGN WHERE THE INCIDENT BEGAN, NOR WHERE IT ENDED. I ASK AGAIN, WHY WAS THIS MAN OR MEN PARKED ON THE SIDE OF A DARK RURAL ROAD AT 4 AM?
I ALSO ASKED THE SHERIFF'S DEPUTY "IF PUBLIC ROADS ARE NOT FOR THE PUBLIC?" AGAIN, HE SAID BOTH OF US HAD VALID POINTS. WE WILL SEE!
MY WIFE HAS RECORED ALL THE TIMES AND CONVERSATIONS WITH THE SHERIFF. SHE IS PREPARED TO FILE A COMPLAINT ALSO. FAILURE TO PROTECT A CITIZEN BEING HARRASSED WHILE THEY ARE WITHIN THEIR RIGHT AS AN EMPLOYED PERSON DOING THEIR JOB IS GROUNDS FOR LEGAL ACTION FROM SEVERAL ANGLES.
IMAGINE THIS SCENARIO: IF I, BEING AFRICAN AMERICAN WOULD PARK MY VEHICLE AROUND ANNANDALE, DEERFIELD, OR ANY OTHER SUBDIVISION IN MADISON COUNTY, AT 4 A.M. I THEN BEGAN FOLLOWING A VEHICLE CLOSELY AND AT TIMES WITHIN INCHES OF THE VEHICLES BUMPER, WITH MY BRIGHT LIGHTS ON. I WOULD ALMOST GUARENTEE THAT WITHIN MINUTES, HALF OF THE SHERIFF'S DEPUTIES IN MADISON WHOULD HAVE BEEN UPON ME. AND WOULD HAVE LIKELY SPEND THE REST OF THE DAY IN JAIL. MY WIFE TALKED TO THE DISPATCHER AT LEAST 5 TO 10 MINUTES, YET THE ONLY PATROL CAR I SAW WAS THE ONE THAT I REQUESTED TO COME AND TAKE MY COMPLAINT.
I HAVE BEEN THROWING PAPERS ON THIS ROUTE FOR MORE THAN NINE MONTHS. IN THAT TIME I HAVE BEEN I HAVE STOPPED THREE (3) TIMES BY THE MADISON COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPUTIES AND TWICE BY THE RIDGELAND POLICE, BECAUSE THEY COULD SEE THAT I WAS A BLACK MAN IN A "RESTRICTED/RESPECTED AREA."

9:45 AM: TALKED WITH THE UNDER SHERIFF WHO BECAME UPSET WHEN I SUGGESTED THAT THE INCIDENT WAS RACIAL. (THE BYRD CASE IN TEXAS)
3:30 PM: TALKED TO THE ATTORNEY GENERALS OFFICE WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NO CIVIL RIGHTS DIVISION AND TO CONTACT THE MADISON COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE.
3:40 PM: TALKED TO THE MADISON COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE WHO DIRECTED ME TO THE F.B.I. HE SUGGESTED THAT I FILE "DRIVING TOO CLOSE WITH BRIGHT LIGHTS ON" CHARGE THAT WAS SUGGESTED BY THE UNDER-SHERIFF.

It is my understanding that A.frican American students who live in the East Flora Area begin their daily bus trip to Madison Central before 6 AM, and travel much longer than forty-five minutes that Mr. Kent alluded to for White Students would have to travel to Velma Jackson High School. I would also like to remind him the White teacher, who holds the majority of the teaching positions at Velma Jackson, travel longer than forty-five minutes to teach those African American students. I must remind Mr. Kent that one cannot place the title “MAGNET SCHOOL”, strip it of its share of educational resources and not actively promote its success. THAT SCHOOL IS DOOMED TO FAIL!!!!
We, African Americans, must take heed and never forget the history and traditions of Madison County and take heed of what is happening with the Dixiecrat-Republican majority government officials who run this County. Remember them on ELECTION DAY”. If not, we will soon realize that this “Consent Decree” case is just the tip of the iceberg.

THE BIRTHDAY OF REV. DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.:
“WHY ARE WE HERE?”
THE REV. DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR:
· BORN, IN ATLANTA, GA, ON THIS DAY IN 1929
· RECEIVED A BA DEGREE IN SOCIOLOGY, AT AGE 19, FROM MOREHOUSE COLLEGE, IN 1948. (THE GREAT YEAR THAT I WAS BORN)
· RECEIVED A DEGREE IN DEVINITY FROM CROZER THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY (CHESTER, PA) IN 1951
· AND, A PH.D IN SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY FROM BOSTON UNIVERSITY IN 1955.
FROM A HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE, CONSIDERING THE TIME FRAME, 1929-1955, THE PLACE WHERE HE WAS BORN, ATLANTA, GEORGIA, AND WHAT HE WAS ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH IN JUST TWENTY-SIX YEARS OF LIFE, WOULD HAVE TO BE CHARACTERIZE AS REMARKABLE.
HOWEVER, THOSE TWENTY-SIX YEARS PROVED TO BE MARTIN’S FORMATIVE YEARS, HIS YEARS IN THE WILDERNESS. I BELIEVE THAT THESE WERE YEARS IN WHICH DR. KING BEGAN TO FORMALATE HIS “DREAM” , NO!, HIS MISSION, AND HIS PLACE WITHIN THAT “DREAM-MISSION”.
1955 BECAME THE POINT OF DEPARTURE ON THAT MISSION WHEN HE LED THE MONTGOMERY BUS BOYCOTT AGAINST SEGREGATED BUSSES.
YET, IT WAS ONLY THE BEGINNING. IN THE NEXT THIRTEEN SHORT YEARS, DR. KING JOURNEYED THROUGH THE CONSCIENCE OF THE AMERICAN MIND, FORCED THE NATION TO LOOK AT WHAT IT HAD BECOME, AND SHOWED A PEOPLE, BLACK PEOPLE, MYSELF INCLUDED, TO DEMAND THEIR RIGHTFUL PLACE IN AMERICAN SOCIETY.
I NEVER MET DR. KING, BUT I SAW HIM AS HE PASSED OUR HOUSE ON RIDGELAND AVENUE AND HIGHWAY 51 ON HIS MARCH FROM MEMPHIS TO JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI IN THE SUMMER OF 1966. IF HE WAS IN THE NEWSPAPER OR ON RADIO OR TELEVISION, I WAS THERE. AND EACH TIME I FELT THAT, IN A SENSE, HE WAS TALKING TO ME AND DEEPLY CONCERNED ABOUT THE WORLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO FACE.
NEVERTHELESS, THAT IS NOT WHY WE ARE HERE TODAY. WE ARE HERE TODAY:
· TO HONOR MARTIN LUTHER KING JR’S VISION OF EQUALITY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL.
· TO CONTINUE HIS MISSION THAT AMERICANS, BLACK, WHITE, RED, OR YELLOW, MUST BE AFFORDED THE OPPROTUNITY TO HAVE A QUALITY WAY OF LIFE, AN EQUAL EDUCATION, AND THE PERSUIT OF HAPPINESS.
· TO REMEMBER THAT THROUGHOUT HIS TRIAL AND TRIBULATIONS, DR. KING NEVER LOST HIS FAITH IN GOD AND GOD’S PROMISE TO US.
· TO NOT ALLOW HIS MEMORY TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH THE LIKES OF GEN. ROBERT E. LEE AND STONEWALL JACKSON WHO CONTINUE TO FIGHT CIVIL RIGHTS FROM THE GRAVE. WHERE THE CONFEDERATE FLAG WILL CEASE TO BE A REMINDER OF RACISM AND SEGREGATION TO OUR CHILDREN AS THEY ENTER SCHOOL HOUSES AND GOVERNMENT BUILDINGS THROUGH THE SOUTH. WHERE OUR CHILDREN WILL HAVE A REAL OPPORTUNITY TO BE ALL THAT THEY CAN BE.
WE ARE HERE TO REMEMBER THESE WORDS SPOKEN BY DR. KING ON THE DAY BEFORE HE DIED ON APRIL 4, 1968:
“I JUST WANT TO DO GOD’S WILL”, HE SAID, “ AND HE’S ALLOWED ME TO GO TO THE MOUNTIAN TOP. AND I’VE SEEN THE PROMISE LAND! I MAY NOT GET THERE WITH YOU, BUT I WANT YOU TO KNOW TONIGHT THAT WE AS A PEOPLE WILL GET TO THE PRIMISE LAND.”
IT IS UP US, ALL OF US, TO CONTINUE THE “DREAM-MISSION” OF DR. KING. CELEBRATE THIS DAY AS A DAY TO REMEMBER WHERE WE, AS A PEOPLE, HAVE COME. AND WHERE WE, AS A PEOPLE, MUST GO. THE FUTURE REST WITH US ALL TO CELEBRATE THIS DAY, JANUARY 15TH FOR OURSELVES, OUR CHILDREN, AND OUR CHILDREN’S CHILDREN.

RE: LETTER TO THE EDITOR
I hope that every African American, who resides in Madison County, has been following your reporting of the trial that the Madison County School District finds itself. There is an attempt to restore legally, the "separate but un-equal" school system in Madison County. Personally, I had a guarded respect for Superintendent Mike Kent until he began to pursue this course of action.
I write to you as a resident born in Madison County prior to the Civil Rights movement, witnessed and participated in that Movement, and was part of a group of students who faced the raft of Madison County Segregationalists, attempting to integrate Madison Central High School's predessor, Madison-Ridgeland High School in 1966. It is a subtle attempt to return Madison County to unrestricted control of what type of education African Americans receive by legally, and controlling their financial support, and who instructs them.
During the debate over whether to build Ridgeland High School these same issues were raised and when questioned about the lack of African American teachers at Madison Central High, Mr. Kent stated that the District had trouble finding enough qualified African American teachers. The District was allowed to build. Ten Months before Ridgeland High School opened; I applied for a teaching position through the Madison County School District. Mind you, I with a Ph. D. in Social Studies, a Double "A" Certification in Computer Application, and over Twenty (20) years of teaching experience. I never received a call from the Madison County School District. I submit to you that, if investigated, you would find similar applications, from African Americans that were dealt with in a similar manner.
Finally, I find it very difficult to believe Mr. Kent's argument about the distance students travel. INCIDENT:
APPROXIAMATELY 4 AM, WHILE DELIVERING PAPERS, I NOTICED A LARGE DARK TRUCK PARKED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, THINKING THAT IT WAS A HUNTER, I CONTINUED TO 230 ANCIENT OAKS AND THREW THE PAPER. THIS WAS IN FULL VIEW OF WHOEVER WAS IN THE TRUCK. I THEN BACKED OUT AS ALWAYS, GOING BACK TO LAKE CAVALIER ROAD.
THE TRUCK THEN TURNED ON ITS BRIGHT LIGHTS AND BEGAN TO FOLLOW ME AT TIMES ON MY BUMPER. AS I CAME TO THE INTERSECTION OF ANCIENT OAKS AND LAKE CAVALIER I TOOK OUT MY CELL PHONE AND TRIED TO CALL HOME. I TURNED LEFT ON LAKE CAVALIER AND THE TRUCK TURNED LEFT. AS I PRECEEDED DOWN LAKE CAVILIER, THE TRUCK TURNED INTO A CHURCH PARKING LOT.
THINKING IT WAS NOTHING, I CONTINUED ON, BEFORE I COULD GET TO MY NEXT THROW, I NOTICED THAT THE TRUCK WAS STILL FOLLOWING ME. BY THE TIME I GOT TO LAKE CAVALIER AND COKER ROAD, THE TRUCK WAS ON MY BUMPER AGAIN. I TURNED LEFT ON COKER ROAD, THE TRUCK TURNED AGAIN. I CALLED MY WIFE AND HAD HER TO CALL THE MADISON COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE AND STAYED ON THE PHONE WITH HER. AT THE SAME TIME I WAS LOOKING FOR A LIGHTED HOUSE IN ORDER TO SEEK HELP. I TURNED INTO 3730 COKER ROAD AND BEGAN TO BLOW MY HORN, BECAUSE THE TRUCK TURNED IN BEHIND, BLOCKING ME IN. (A DISTENCE OF 2.4 MILES AT 4 A.M.)
AS I CONTINUED TO BLOW THE HORN THE TRUCK BACKED UP AND LEFT. AS MY WIFE TALKED TO THE SHERIFFS OFFICE, I WAS TOLD THAT THIS MAN WAS ALSO TALKING TO THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE. THE MAN CLAIMED THAT HE WAS FOLLOWING ME BECAUSE HE HAD NEVER SEEN MY VEHICLE IN THE AREA.
WHEN I FIRST APPROACH THE VEHICLE ON ANCIENT OAKS, MY INSIDE LIGHTS WERE ON AND HE COULD CLEARLY SEE ME AND COLOR OF MY SKIN. HE ALSO SAW OR SHOULD HAVE SEEN ME THROW THE PAPER AT 230 ANCIENT OAKS.
LATER I DECIDED TO HAVE A SHERIFF'S DEPUTY MEET ME AND TAKE A COMPLAINT, BECAUSE THEY HAD TO KNOW THE MAN'S NAME. THE OFFICER MET ME AT COKER ROAD AND SHADY LANE. HE GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND DIDN'T HAVE ANYTHING IN HIS HAND TO TAKE MY COMPLAINT. I TOLD THE OFFICER I WANT TO FILE A COMPLAINT, THE OFFICER TOLD ME THAT THE TRUCK DRIVER HAD DONE NOTHING WRONG. I SAID:
"WHAT ABOUT HARRASSMENT? INTERFERING WITH MY ABILITY TO MAKE A LIVING? THE OFFICER SAID THAT NONE OF THOSE APPLIED AND THAT JUST AS I HAD A RIGHT TO MAKE A LIVING, THE TRUCK DRIVER HAD A RIGHT TO PROTECT HIS NEIGHBORHOOD. I SAID "HE SURELY SAW ME THROW THE PAPER"; THE OFFICER SAID,"HE COULD HAVE BEEN REACHING DOWN FOR HIS CELL PHONE AT THE EXACT SAME TIME THAT I THREW THE PAPER. "WHY WOULD HE BE ON MY BUMPER WITH HIS BRIGHT LIGHTS GLARING"? I SAID. THE OFFICER SAID "HE WAS TRYING TO GET YOUR LINCENCE #, HE CALLED IT IN, YOU KNOW. I ASKED THE OFFICER WHY WOULD HE CONTINUE TO FOLLOW ALMOST A MILE DOWN COKER ROAD, IF HE WAS TALKING TO THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE? THE OFFICER SAID HE WAS ON "NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH". THE OFFICER TOLD ME ONCE AGAIN THAT THE DRIVER OF THE TRUCK HAD DONE NOTHING WRONG, HOWEVER HE COULD SEE BOTH SIDES OF THE STORY.
POSSIBLE VIOLATIONS OF LAW AND/OR CIVIL RIGHTS:
ASSUALT
1.AND UNLAWFUL THREAT OR ATTEMPT TO DO BODILY INJURY TO ANOTHER, OR2.THE ACT OR INSTANCE OF UNLAWFULLY THREATENING OR ATTEMPTING TO INJURE ANOTHER.
CLEARLY, THE PERSON DRIVING THE PLACED MY LIFE IN JEOPARDY BY HIS ACTIONS. BECAUSE I COULD HAVE LOST CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE WHILE TRYING TO WATCH HIM AND GET HELP IN THIS REMOTE AREA.
RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT:
"CONDUCT THAT CREATES A SUBSTANTIAL RISK OF SERIOUS PHYSICAL INJURY OR DEATH TO ANOTHER PERSON" (SEE ABOVE COMMENT)
THERE ARE OTHERS: HARRASSMENT, RESTRAINT OF TRADE (INTERFERING WITH MY ABILITY TO CONDUCT LAWFUL BUSINESS), AND ACCORDING TO THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE, "FAILURE TO DIM LIGHTS WHILD TAILGATING". THIS WAS THE ONLY LEGAL OPTION THEY COULD GIVE ME. THIS SUGGESTION IS TOO LUDICROUS TO COMMENT UPON. I TOLD THE OFFICER THAT HAD I NOT HAD A CELL PHONE TO CONTACT HELP THEY MIGHT HAVE FOUND ME SWINGING FROM A TREE AND THAT WAS MY CONCERN. SEEING THAT I WASN'T GOING ANYWHERE WITH THIS OFFICER, WHO COULD CLARLY SEE HOW SHAKEN I WAS, I THANKED HIM AND WENT ON MY WAY.
WHY WAS THIS MAN OUT AT 4 AM ON A DARK GRAVEL ROAD? WHEN DID HE PHONE THE SHIRIFF'S OFFICE? DID HE DO IT TO COVER HIS TRUE INTENTION AND SUSPECTED THAT I WAS CALLING THE SHIRIFF?
IF HE WAS ON NEIGHBORHOOD PATROL DOES IT EXTEND OVER A MILE FROM WHERE HE FIRST SAW ME THROW THE PAPER. IF HIS INTENTION WAS TO SHAKE A BLACK PERSON UP, HE SURE DID THAT.
ARE PEOPLE ALLOWED TO TAKE SUCH MEANS BECAUSE "THEY DIDN'T RECOGNIZE A CAR IT IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD? MY JOB IS TO DELIVER PAPERS BEFORE THE CUSTOMERS GO TO WORK. THERE IS NOT ONE NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH SIGN WHERE THE INCIDENT BEGAN, NOR WHERE IT ENDED. I ASK AGAIN, WHY WAS THIS MAN OR MEN PARKED ON THE SIDE OF A DARK RURAL ROAD AT 4 AM?
I ALSO ASKED THE SHERIFF'S DEPUTY "IF PUBLIC ROADS ARE NOT FOR THE PUBLIC?" AGAIN, HE SAID BOTH OF US HAD VALID POINTS. WE WILL SEE!
MY WIFE HAS RECORED ALL THE TIMES AND CONVERSATIONS WITH THE SHERIFF. SHE IS PREPARED TO FILE A COMPLAINT ALSO. FAILURE TO PROTECT A CITIZEN BEING HARRASSED WHILE THEY ARE WITHIN THEIR RIGHT AS AN EMPLOYED PERSON DOING THEIR JOB IS GROUNDS FOR LEGAL ACTION FROM SEVERAL ANGLES.
IMAGINE THIS SCENARIO: IF I, BEING AFRICAN AMERICAN WOULD PARK MY VEHICLE AROUND ANNANDALE, DEERFIELD, OR ANY OTHER SUBDIVISION IN MADISON COUNTY, AT 4 A.M. I THEN BEGAN FOLLOWING A VEHICLE CLOSELY AND AT TIMES WITHIN INCHES OF THE VEHICLES BUMPER, WITH MY BRIGHT LIGHTS ON. I WOULD ALMOST GUARENTEE THAT WITHIN MINUTES, HALF OF THE SHERIFF'S DEPUTIES IN MADISON WHOULD HAVE BEEN UPON ME. AND WOULD HAVE LIKELY SPEND THE REST OF THE DAY IN JAIL. MY WIFE TALKED TO THE DISPATCHER AT LEAST 5 TO 10 MINUTES, YET THE ONLY PATROL CAR I SAW WAS THE ONE THAT I REQUESTED TO COME AND TAKE MY COMPLAINT.
I HAVE BEEN THROWING PAPERS ON THIS ROUTE FOR MORE THAN NINE MONTHS. IN THAT TIME I HAVE BEEN I HAVE STOPPED THREE (3) TIMES BY THE MADISON COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPUTIES AND TWICE BY THE RIDGELAND POLICE, BECAUSE THEY COULD SEE THAT I WAS A BLACK MAN IN A "RESTRICTED/RESPECTED AREA."

9:45 AM: TALKED WITH THE UNDER SHERIFF WHO BECAME UPSET WHEN I SUGGESTED THAT THE INCIDENT WAS RACIAL. (THE BYRD CASE IN TEXAS)
3:30 PM: TALKED TO THE ATTORNEY GENERALS OFFICE WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NO CIVIL RIGHTS DIVISION AND TO CONTACT THE MADISON COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE.
3:40 PM: TALKED TO THE MADISON COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE WHO DIRECTED ME TO THE F.B.I. HE SUGGESTED THAT I FILE "DRIVING TOO CLOSE WITH BRIGHT LIGHTS ON" CHARGE THAT WAS SUGGESTED BY THE UNDER-SHERIFF.
