HOW BEST TO LEARN

As we conclude our fourth week of investigating the origins and development of Civilizations. I have observed many different responses to questions and blank faces among many of you, as we have tried to untangle this web of our history.
It is now time to reflect and evaluate where we are. Toward that end, I want you to tell me about your learning style or styles and your expections. Your task is to repond to the following:

"WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LEARNING STYLE?" and WHY? do you like that style, as opposed to the many that are out there.Think about it, and post your comments here.

  1. my favorite learning style would have to be a hands on experience such as activities that would get me involeved in the topics duscussed in history. when listening my mind processes the words fast allowing me to trail in thoughts of my own. when i read i can easily get side tracked and forget what it is i need to be doing. even if for a moment that moment is lost and i cant go back to study at that point in time. a combination of the two works at times but i know that it will only work as a result of my self discipline. a hands on experience provides me with the experience of going out and actively, in a group or by myself, becoming involved. it would place me in a situation where i can either imagine myself there in history or imagine people who were there at that point in history further enabling my understanding.

  2. I am a hands-on learner. If I am up and active, I am awake, interested, and learniing. When I listen to one person talk for more than 20 minutes straight, I tend to lose interest and then I stop paying attention as my mind begins to wander from my initial focus. I also learn from reading information and then having a discussion from what I read so that I know if I am learning what I need to, instead of just wasting time. Lecturing isn't as strong as hands-on because it doesn't help me to retain the information long enough for me to actually learn it. I only end up memorizing it for a certain period of time.

  3. my favorite learning style would have to be simply hearing it, talking about it, and then doing it (assignment on it). i like learning through examples after i've already heard what it is that im learning. im not the reading type, i comprehend things better hearing it from another source. when i can hear something talk about it and then do an assignment on it i get the full understanding and to me that makes it easier and better than any other learning style.

  4. I am a rote learner. I learn my reading facts and memorizing them. I am accustomed to this type of learning because most of my years in school, I would take notes and study them exactly to prepare for test.

  5. My favorite learning style would be hands-on/discussion because doing an assignment on my own gives me a satisfaction of knowing that i have attempted and put much thought into the assignment and then discussing the assignment as a class shows me what i did wrong and then i could write it down for further studying. I have learned that discussing different topics as a class teaches me more than a book could.

  6. Well im a visual and auditory learner. I like to see information, as well as hear it. Visual, in a since has to do alot with imagery and memorization. Auditory, has to do with hearing and translating info into a form you fully understand. Combining the two, visual and auditory can help any person willing to learn.

  7. I tend to learn and remember things better by listening to lectures. From the lectures I remember the key points that are said, but I also always go back to read my assigned reading assignments or either reread over my notes. By doing that, I can make sure that I understand what my instructor may not have said or covered.

  8. My favorite learning style is hands on learning. Personally I cant sit in a class and be letured for an hour and expect to get something out of it. Learning has to be fun and exciting.

  9. I am mainly a tactile learner as well as a visual learner. Which means i like to see the visual information put in front of me and do hands on activities to help me learn better. I like these specific learning styles because it helps me to see the facts aswell as doin activities to make the information seem relevant and fun to me, as opposed to someone setting up and lecturing me all day

  10. I don't really have a favorite learnng style. Which ever style i can learn it by the quickest is what i use. Wheather is visual, hands-on, or any of the other type of styles. Some days i can listen in class and memorize what i need to know and some days i can't i must be taught hands-on or watch someone do it first.

  11. My best way of learning is hands on.I like hands on because it gets me more involved with the assignment in which I can learn more. This experience gives you the opportunity to ask questions so you can understand the assignment.

  12. I learn from observation. If I see something enough, I learn how to do it. I like this style because it's easier for me to pick up things. For me, this is the best way of learning. There are many other ways from which I learn, such as: note-taking and hands-on learning. They are all great ways, but observation works fine for me.

  13. My favorite learning style is a combination of both auditory and visual learning. I need to see and read it to get a gist of information, but I need to hear it to learn it more in depth.

  14. I learn things hands-on every now and then, but not as much as learning things by reading, seeing, and hearing.

  15. I perfer a veriety of all the learning styles to be used in the classroom becuase that way the lectures always seem new and exciting. This keeps me guessing what is next, and in turn keeps me interseted. If i had to pick a particular style of learning that best suites me, i would say visual and musically-kennestetic. I think i can best relate to this because watching, dancing and listening to music are things that i naturally do because i enjoy them.

  16. I think the best way of learning for me is visual learning. If I see things more and more, I recognize it the next time I see it. I like this style because it is the best and more productive style for me.

  17. My favorite learning style is observing and also doing tactile activities. I like these two styles the most because it helps me to educate myself in an in depth way. I feel like when I learn by observing and doing hands on things, the information I perceive sticks with me. Latiah Smith

  18. I am a visual learning my memory is very vivid if i can tie something with things i have seen before or things i learned from seeing such as a teacher writing on the board i tend to remember them. I also like the reading and writing method it really helps me on different test. Overall i am a visual learner and prefer it over others learning methods because they dont benifit me.

  20. My learning style is both visiual and audio. I need a an example of the work that is assigned to me, by doing so i decrease the chance of error. I need audio becuase I like for the imformation to be broken down step by step. I am a great listner, and when the information is presented to me correctly I perform well.

  22. Hi this is Jacqueline Brown. I believe I learn best visually and hands on. Being able to see and be involved in a subject is the way I retain the most information.

  24. My favorite learning style is hands on learning because I'm applying myself more to learn something new. Hands on learning also helps me understand new material better, and it makes learnng fun.

  25. I learn better with the hands-on method. This learning style is better for me because it allows me to make mistakes and learn from them so that I don't make the same mistakes. Also, it makes learning fun for me.

  26. My favorite style of learning is when we get into groups. I don't always like to get into groups but I think it's the best way I can learn.

  27. I tend to learn best from visual displays like diagrams, illustrated text books..etc. During a lecture or classroom discussion,I like to take detailed notes to absorb the information. But at the same time I like to learn from what others have to say. Sometimes written information may have little meaning until it is heard. So i like to read my texts loud. I also like productive group discussion.

  29. My favorite learning style would have to be hands on! It allows me to actually take part in what im learning, which helps me learn faster and better. Also if I make mistakes, I can go back or rethink where I made the mistake at.

  30. I am audio and visual learner. I need to be taught or show in detail what is expected of me. I can work independently if given clear direction. I am having difficulty in this class I think because I am exepected to teach myself or interact with other students more than I'm use to. I am about 7 to 11 years older than most of my classmates. I'm a wife of ten years, mother, full time employee, and full time student. I don't have the free time needed to work with other as much as needed for this class. I am trying to do better, but it is taking a little more to adjust to your teaching style.

  31. Well I learn best by the instructor giving out info and students taking notes, but not just a lot of info that we do not know anything about. The teacher makes the info easier to understand by relating it to situations that we as young adults are aware of.Yeah, there are other types of learning methods, but I prefer mines better.I look foward to learning more about history so that I can connect it with what I have learned in the past.

  32. i like to watch the images or what the person gives us or puts on the board so i can put it in my memory because i am a visual learner and that is what helps me learn the best

  33. I think the best way to learn is hands on, I also like to look at a person do something all in all I like to do both it gets set in my memory that way I can remember them doing an activity and then i can try and do it myself and the goal will be accomplished or the job will be done.
